Huy Elementary houses a large
population of children as well as the Total Communication elementary
population of the Columbus Hearing Impaired Program. Several self-contained
classrooms are available to students who are deaf and hard-of-hearing,
grades 1-5. Students have the opportunity to participate with
age-appropriate peers in all aspects of the school experience.
Students who are deaf-or-hard
of hearing have an Individualized Education Plan based upon current levels
of performance. Educational Interpreters provide sign language support to
students in mainstreamed classrooms. Huy Elementary also houses an inclusion
option for kindergarten level students in the oral/aural program. The staff
at Huy Elementary is flexible and accommodates educational opportunities for
all students. Support services are available to students served in the
Columbus Hearing Impaired Program.
