London celebrated the start of the Chinese Year of the Monkey on Sunday 25 January 2004, with a programme of events spanning Leicester Square, Chinatown, and the newly renovated Trafalgar Square. The square was packed with around 40,000 Londoners throughout the day. The Mayor was given the honour of dotting the eyes of the dragon - symbolising the waking of the mystical beast to mark the new Year of the Monkey. |
